Volvo Vera – autonomous electric tow tractor

At first glance, the Volvo Vera looks like a sports car with its futuristic design. However, it is an electric tow tractor. In cooperation with the Swedish logistics company DFDS, Vera is being tested at the port of Gothenburg. Since the tractor drives autonomously, the tests are initially limited to the industrial area. The maximum speed is limited to 40 km/h. Later, the deployment of an entire fleet between the DFDS logistics center and the port is planned. This also includes the use of public roads.

As a technology partner, Volvo also takes on the development of other challenges such as automating precise loading and unloading and opening access barriers.

The aim is to use automation to transport large quantities of goods as economically as possible with high precision over short distances.
